Abstract

The present study evaluated the influence of a session of continuous aerobic exercise (EAC) and a session of high intensity interval exercise (EIAI) in the PEH of normotensive elderly people. Fifteen normotensive elderly people (63.4 ± 5.4 years) performed two procedures on the cycle ergometer with a minimum interval of 48 hours between each one; EIAI with five sets of four minutes with intensity of 90% of the Heart Rate Reserve (FCRes) and three-minute intervals at 50% of the HRRes; 40-minute EAC at 60% to 80% FCRes intensity. Blood pressure was measured in the pre- and post-exercise period and during recovery for one hour every 20 minutes. There was no significant difference for systolic and diastolic PEH, respectively, both in the EAC (p = 0.282); (p = 0.886) as in the EIAI (p = 0.318); (p = 0.726). When comparing the measurements of the time of recovery intervals between procedures, there was no significant difference.
