Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate environmental changes, especially in gallery forests, for the conservation and use of soil and water in the springs of the São Luiz stream, in the municipality of Formosa da Serra Negra, in the south-central region of the state of Maranhão. The study was carried out through a bibliographic survey with a qualitative approach. The environmental characterization used elements of the soil, relief, climate, rocks and vegetation, based on government reports. The analysis was carried out by studying the environmental landscape of the stream, focusing on the Watershed study unit. The practices that could be adopted to revitalize the soil and ground cover vegetation would be terracing, recovering the sand banks by isolating the area, fertilizing the soil and improving the pastures by rotating the cattle and planting grasses.

Carlos Augusto Machado, Federal University of Northern Tocantins

Bachelor's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geography from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). PhD from the Federal University of Uberlândia with research entitled "Genesis and Morphology of Technogenic Deposits". He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Fundação Universidade Federal do Tocantins, teaching Geology and Geomorphology. He participates in the preparation of environmental projects (EIA-RIMA/RCA-PCA), with an emphasis on Integrated Management of Soils and Waters in Hydrographic Basins, working mainly on the following themes: environmental diagnosis, environmental planning, integrated management and conservation practices and biodiversity. Editor and reviewer of the Tocantinense Journal of Geography (RTG) and reviewer of the Cosmos journal. Coordinator of LABGESOL (Geology and Soils Laboratory). In 2016, he published the book entitled "Technogenic Deposits: Genesis, Morphologies and Dynamics. Coordinator of selection processes at UFNT. Professor of the Master's course in Geography PPGEO - Araguaína
