Abstract

This article reflects on the uses of territory, a theory developed by Milton Santos, and from there, relate and understand the hip hop movement in Palmas-TO. The general objective corresponded to research in the city of Palmas-TO the use of the territory by the hip hop movement. Therefore, it analyzes the geographical category Territory, under different authors and their conceptions, in order to verify their divergences and convergences on this category. The contextualization of hip hop and its manifestations are essential within the current of this culture for the sequence of the work. In this way, the use of the territory within the municipality of Palmas-TO by the movement is analyzed in order to observe the promotion of citizenship in these actions. The city of Palmas-TO is the newest capital of the country, so it is extremely important to study its different perspectives. Geographic science contributes to spatial transformations from the uses of the territory with the objective of promoting dignity, equity, representativeness and fair social life. In this way, the mobilization of hip hop with an emphasis on breaking happens in a common way in neighborhoods away from the center. The research was carried out linked to LABUTO – Research Laboratory in Political Geography and Uses of Brazilian Territory, of the Geography course at the Federal University of Tocantins, Porto Nacional campus.

Denis Ricardo Carloto, Federal University of Tocantins

PhD in Geography from the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences - FFLCH of the University of São Paulo - USP (2014). Master in Geography from the Federal University of Paraná - UFPR (2007). Graduation - Degree in Geography from the State University of Londrina - UEL (2000). He is currently an Adjunct Professor of the Geography course at the Federal University of Tocantins - UFT, Porto Nacional campus. Coordinator of LABUTO - Research Laboratory in Political Geography and Use of the Brazilian Territory. Professional experience as a Geography Teacher in elementary, secondary and higher education in the public and private networks.

Wibirá Regis Alves dos Santos, Federal University of Tocantins

Graduated in Geography from the Federal University of Tocantins. Teacher in the public and private network of Basic Education.
