Abstract

With the influence of urbanization, the natural environment is compressed by the artificialities created by man. In this way, a city that presents good afforestation patterns, both in quantitative and qualitative terms, guarantees a habitat for animals and contributes to people's quality of life. The objective of this work was to analyze the afforestation project implemented in the Jardim das Flores sector in the city of Araguaína-TO by the municipal government in 2004. The tree species planted in Jardim das Flores were oiti and flamboyant. These, according to specialists in urban afforestation, are classified as unsuitable for planting on sidewalks with a width of less than 3.0m and under electrical wiring, as they are considered large trees (above 8.0 m in height) . As for the choice of trees and width of sidewalks, the afforestation in Jardim das Flores was wrongly planned. However, regarding the setback (distance from the front of the house to the curb), the width of the street and the presence of overhead wiring, in some places, the trees will not cause greater damage to residents.
