Abstract

This article discusses general characteristics about the elderly participants of Grupo dos Mais Vividos of the Serviço Social do Comercio of the Federal District (Sesc-DF).  Knowing the characteristics of the elderly means addressing aspects that go beyond the demographic data, because the aging process is complex. The present survey was to identify and to know the profile of the elderly that participate in the teaching groups, social. The research is of a quantitative method and questionnaires were applied to the participants of the group at the time of registering in the activities of the year 2018. The results portray the description of the elderly population that participates in the GMV. It was observed that the elderly are not living alone or in situations of family abandonment, however, a significant majority of the elderly have been taking on the task of maintaining the home. These categories chosen for analysis are justified due to the possibility of knowing the social dimensions of the life of the elderly, which is the intervention field of the Social Worker, who is currently responsible for coordinating the activities of the groups, creating a new space for the exercise of citizenship and construction of the social participation.
