Abstract

The school presents itself as an essential space to encourage reading. Although, the teaching of literature has been neglected in schools, since it has been considered as a pretext for the study of language, leading students to dislike reading itself. This article is the result of the elaboration and application of a reading project called "Gincana Literária", in an 8th grade classroom of an Elementary School in Montes Claros, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and aims to discuss how teachers’ work with projects related to reading of literary texts can stimulate students to read.
