AGROECOLOGY FAIR OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF MINAS GERAIS

A contribution for the dissemination and participation of rural and urban local farmers of the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte in the participative guarantee system

Abstract

This article reports how the Agroecological Fair of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) operates in the process of the Participatory Guarantee System (SPG) for rural and urban producers in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte (RMBH). The general objective of this article was to verify if the UFMG Agroecological Fair is being an essential tool in the dissemination of the SPG among rural and urban producers in the RMBH. And the specific objectives of knowing the history of involvement of the UFMG Agroecological Fair with the rural and urban agroecological producers of the RMBH and examining the legal aspects of the SPG. To this end, bibliographic and documentary research was carried out on agroecology, Agroecological fair and SPG, focusing on concepts, lived experiences and through official documents, and results of research carried out on the diagnosis of adherence to an agroecological certification system by the producers of the UFMG Fair. It was found that, in 2019, the UFMG Agroecological Fair acted as a facilitator in the SPG process, requiring only the declaration of the producer as a commitment to carry out their registration in the aforementioned Fair, by accepting the participation of non-agroecological producers in the public notice. selection process, in the consolidation of opportunities for social, economic and socio-spatial and environmental development of rural and urban family farmers in the RMBH.
