This review presents the book “Escravidão: do primeiro leilão de cativos em Portugal até a morte de Zumbi dos Palmares” written by Laurentino Gomes. The author is famous for his great ability to promote reader retention writing. In his book, he will present a reflection on the process of slavery that shaped Brazilian society. This volume 1 covers a period from 1440, year of the first official auction of African slaves made by the Portuguese, until 1695, year of the death of the mythical Zumbi dos Palmares. The purpose of this review is to present that even though the book is a work on the history of slavery, it has a rich information from geographic sources, which provides geographers who intend to read the work a significant experience. To this end, only 4 points of the book were highlighted (among many others) that present Geography and all the complexity of the spatial issue was also addressed by Laurentino Gomes.
