The book Modo de Produção Capitalista, Agricultura e Reforma Agrária, by Ariovaldo Umbelino de Oliveira, examines the agrarian question through a historical-dialectical materialist perspective, highlighting the contradictions of capitalist development in rural areas. The author argues that capitalism recreates non-capitalist relations of production, especially peasant farming, through the subordination of land rent to capital. The work challenges interpretations that predict the disappearance of the peasantry and analyzes land concentration as a structural feature of capitalism. In the final chapters, agrarian reform in Brazil is critically assessed as insufficient to transform existing land structures. The book stands as a key reference for critical agrarian studies.
