The author brings in his book the debate about the importance of the work of recyclable material collectors in the process of managing urban solid waste. His work presents the results of a broad qualitative and quantitative research (mixed methodology), which makes us reflect on the importance of the collector's role through their undeniable participation in the recycling production network. The aim of this study was to understand how the recycling production network is constituted in the state of Rio de Janeiro and how this network produces connections between the lower and upper circuit of the urban economy. To contemplate his objective, the author sought to understand the operating mode of the recycling economy and its network organization, which is in a constant process of transformation, building sometimes cooperative and sometimes conflicting circuits.
