Abstract

This article presents a synthesis on the concept of scale from Blommaert (2010) and Kell (2009; 2015), with some considerations about its use in the practice of sociolinguistic analysis. The research is a bibliographical one, contextualizing the sociolinguistics in times of globalization and highlighting the perspectives of vertical and horizontal scales. Methodological renewal is considered important to accompany sociolinguistic phenomena in the 21st century, and the use of scales, as a category of analysis, becomes a fundamental tool to follow, in practice, the trajectories and movements of people and texts and their relations in space and time.
