Abstract

Financial education has become a growing concern in a globalized world, deepening studies on the subject. Financial education encourages the development of knowledge, aptitude, skills and prepares individuals to manage their finances effectively. Therefore, this paper aims to report the social implications of financial education in the state of Tocantins through the Tutorial Education Program of the Economic Sciences Course at the Federal University of Tocantins (PET-Economia/UFT). The methodology adopted was the descriptive method according to the literature. The main results show an interaction between academia and society, participation in projects with an external organization, experience and learning with different social and economic actors. Training citizens capable of making conscious decisions and choices to manage their financial resources, whether they are young or older.

Izadora Farias de Alencar, Federal University of Tocantins

Graduate of the Economic Sciences Course, scholarship holder of the Tutorial Education Program (PET) of the PET Economy Group at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), intern at the Regional Economic Council (CORECON – TO).

Maria Cláudia Lemos Oliveira, Federal University of Tocantins

Economist from UFT, former scholarship holder of the Tutorial Education Program (PET) of the PET Economy Group at the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT), intern at the company Fin4She.

Juliana Aguiar de Melo, Federal University of Tocantins

Professor of the Economic Sciences Course and PhD student in Urban and Regional Planning. It works on financial education projects for state public school teachers and people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability (elderly people and women). Integrates the Center for Rural Studies, Inequalities and Socioecological Systems – NERUD.

Gisele Barbosa de Paiva, University of Brasilia

Professor of the Economic Sciences Course and PhD in Economics from UnB. It works on financial education projects for state public school teachers and people in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability (elderly people and women). Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Regional Development and the Economic Sciences course at the Federal University of Tocantins - UFT. Leader of the Research Group on Regional and Territorial Development of the North Center of Brazil (DRT - North Center). Productivity Scholarship from the Fundação de Ampara à Pesquisa do Estado do Tocantins - FAPT.
