RIEcim JOURNAL RETRACTION POLICY - CROSSMARK/CROSSREF

RIEcim Journal - Interdisciplinary Journal of Science and Mathematics Education - supports and follows the principles and standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), an international organization of reference for integrity and ethics in scientific publications. We declare that our editorial process, selection criteria, and publication follow the rules of conduct and ethics described at: https://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors_Mar11.pdf

We adopt the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE - http://publicationethics.org/) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors to deal with cases of scientific misconduct, such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data falsification or fabrication, improper use of references or citations, duplicate publication, authorship dispute, among others. RIEcim uses plagiarism and self-plagiarism detection tools, and authors must be aware of the implications provided in current legislation, such as the Penal Code (Article 184) and the Copyright Law (Article 7, third paragraph of Law No. 9,610, of February 19, 1998 - see Law No. 12,853, of 2013).

In case of misconduct found by authors, editors, or reviewers, the article will be withdrawn from the evaluation process, and the journal, upon decision of the editorial board, may refuse future submissions from the author(s). If misconduct is committed by one or more editors, they will be removed from their editorial duties. In the case of misconduct by an ad hoc reviewer, they will no longer be invited to contribute to the journal, and their reviewer function will be deactivated.

RIEcim takes responsibility for publishing corrections, clarifications, retractions, errata, expressions of concern, partial retractions, removal and withdrawal of published articles, and other necessary clarifications. Therefore, if misconduct is identified after the publication of an article, it may be necessary to update it with complementary data, corrections, errata, retractions, or its complete removal.

We list below some procedures for handling suspicions of misconduct:

a) All manuscripts submitted to RIEcim are analyzed by anti-plagiarism software, such as CopySpider© and iThenticate, to detect possible cases of plagiarism. If plagiarism is suspected, the evaluation process will be interrupted, and the authors will be asked to provide explanations.

b) Misconduct and unethical behavior, such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, conflicts of interest, or ethical issues, can be identified and reported to the editor at any time, by anyone.

c) Anyone reporting the editor about such conduct must provide sufficient information and evidence to initiate an investigation. All allegations will be treated seriously and investigated impartially until a final decision or conclusion is reached.

d) In case of detection or suspicion of misconduct before or after the publication of the manuscript, RIEcim's editors will take measures according to the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), available at: https://publicationethics.org/files/Full%20set%20of%20English%20flowcharts_9Nov2016.pdf.

If plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, conflicts of interest, or other ethical issues are proven in any published article, the Federal University of Northern Tocantins (UFNT) and RIEcim will be exempt from any responsibility, and the authors will be subject to all legal penalties provided by law due to the irregularities committed by them.

Regarding the Crossmark policy, RIEcim uses CrossMark, an initiative of Crossref, to ensure ethical policies consistent with the principles of open science for authors and readers. By applying the CrossMark logo in metadata and the PDF file, we commit to maintaining the published content and alerting readers about any changes that may occur. With a single click, readers can verify if the content has been updated, corrected, or withdrawn and access additional metadata provided by members, such as important publication dates (submission, review, acceptance), authors' ORCID IDs, content type, funding information, license, peer review, and location of research data.

In case of minor changes, such as formatting and spelling corrections that do not substantially affect the content, the Crossmark status will be updated. On the other hand, major changes that affect the Crossmark status will require the publication of a correction or retraction notice with its own DOI. This will allow readers to follow the link in the Crossmark button and find more details about the update. Both procedures result in the publication of a new document, classified as an erratum or retraction, which records the correction of the error or the reason for the retraction of the article, always referring to the original document.

RIEcim encourages authors to share all data mentioned in the manuscript, publishing them, when available and authorized, in full, following the same retraction policy mentioned. To ensure full transparency of the obtained data, we require authors to declare that, for data not made available or deposited in public repositories, they will be available upon request.

Observation: For cases and situations not foreseen and announced on this site, RIEcim will follow the guidelines and recommendations of COPE. All actions will be taken based on the guidance of this International Ethics Committee.

e) RIEcim takes responsibility for publishing corrections, clarifications, retractions, errata, expressions of concern, partial retractions, removal or withdrawal of published articles, and other necessary clarifications. If misconduct is identified after the publication of an article, it may be necessary to update it with complementary data, corrections, errata, retractions, or its complete removal.

We list below some procedures for handling suspicions of misconduct:

a) All manuscripts submitted to RIEcim will be analyzed by anti-plagiarism software, such as CopySpider© and iThenticate, to detect possible cases of plagiarism. If plagiarism is suspected, the evaluation process will be interrupted, and the authors will be asked to provide explanations.

b) Anyone identifying misconduct or unethical behavior, such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, conflicts of interest, or ethical issues, may inform the editor at any time.

c) The person reporting the inappropriate conduct must provide sufficient information and evidence to initiate an investigation. All allegations will be treated seriously and investigated impartially until a final decision or conclusion is reached.

d) In case of detection or suspicion of misconduct, before or after the publication of the manuscript, the editors of RIEcim will follow the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The actions taken will be in accordance with the guidelines established by COPE and available at [insert link to COPE guidelines].

If misconduct is proven, such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, conflicts of interest, or other ethical issues in any published article, the Federal University of Northern Tocantins (UFNT) and RIEcim will be exempt from any responsibility, and the authors will be responsible for any legal penalties provided by law due to the irregularities committed.

RIEcim is committed to ensuring an ethical policy consistent with the principles of open science. Through CrossMark, an initiative of Crossref, we commit to maintaining the published content and informing readers of any changes that occur. The CrossMark logo in metadata and the PDF file allows readers to verify if the content has been updated, corrected, or withdrawn and access additional metadata provided by members, such as important publication dates, authors' ORCID IDs, content type, funding information, license, peer review, and location of research data.

In case of minor changes that do not substantially affect the content, such as formatting and spelling corrections, the Crossmark status will be updated. On the other hand, major changes that affect the Crossmark status will require the publication of a correction or retraction notice, accompanied by its own DOI. This will allow readers to access the correction or retraction notice through the link in the CrossMark button and obtain more information about the update. Both procedures will result in the publication of a new document, such as an erratum or retraction, which will indicate the correction of the error or the reason for the retraction of the article, always referencing the original document.

In case of an erratum, RIEcim will keep the original document and, at the end of the text, record the correction, referencing the document that published the erratum. In the case of retraction, the original document will be replaced by a message informing that it has been retracted, with reference to the retraction document.

It is essential to highlight that RIEcim encourages authors to share all data mentioned in the manuscript, publishing them, when available and authorized, in full, following the same retraction policy, when applicable. To ensure full transparency of the obtained data, RIEcim requires authors to declare that, if the data are not available or have not been deposited in public repositories, they will be available upon request.

RIEcim is in compliance with the ethical principles and best practices in scientific publishing. In case of misconduct, we are committed to investigating, correcting, and retracting issues in a transparent and responsible manner. Our retraction policy aims to preserve the integrity and credibility of the journal, promoting transparency and scientific rigor in all stages of the editorial process.
