Abstract

The interference of educational agents in the Brazilian cultural agenda is felt from the 1980s; among them, the interlocutors; World Bank, International Bank for Renewal and Development (IBRD) and the UN agencies, stand out the most. It is known that these interlocutors make clear their utilitarian, reductionist and economic character. In this sense we analyze this interference in the Brazilian higher education and trace a historiography of the expansion of higher education in the state of Tocantins and in the city of Araguaína, where HEIs materialize and produce new possibilities of redefining behaviors of the actors involved and a new urban features from this supply of educational services.

Graduated in Licentiate and Bachelor in Geography from the Federal University of Paraíba (1977); Master's Degree in Geography from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2002); Ph.D. in Educational Sciences from the University of Lisbon -PT (2012). She is currently a professor at the Federal University of Tocantins (2003). He has experience in Geography, with an emphasis on Urban Geography, and History of Education, acting on the following topics: Araguaína, health, education, environmental education, area of influence and occupation.
