The Rural Education in Brazilian Legislation: an analysis of the period prior to the 1988 Constitution

This work addresses rural education in Brazil based on the legislation of the imperial and republican periods prior to the 1988 Federal Constitution. Historically, education in rural areas was the result of demands from rural communities in the face of government inaction on legislation related to the subject. The research questions motivating this study are related to which laws covered rural education during that time, how Brazilian legislation dealt with the topic, and what the context was during the period of law enactment. Therefore, the research aims to analyze Brazilian legislation regarding basic education in rural areas, based on the Federal Constitutions and other specific laws related to the topic, spanning from 1824 to 1987, as well as historical events that influenced Brazilian education. The methodology used was qualitative documentary and bibliographical research based on the Federal Constitutions and other laws related to education, selecting those that addressed rural education. Based on the analyses conducted, it is evident that there were advancements in Brazilian legislation regarding school education in rural areas, driven by social movements due to the absence of effective policies for rural education.
