Abstract

ABSTRACT. This study analyzes how aspects of mental health, interculturality, and indigenous epistemologies are present in Brazilian curricular policies, especially in the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), the National Common Base for Teacher Training in Basic Education (BNC-Formação), and the National Curricular Guidelines for Indigenous School Education. The research is situated within critical studies anchored by Amarante (2007), Martín-Baró (1998), Montero (2004), Krenak (2019), Kopenawa and Albert (2015), Walsh (2019), and Santos (2010), using a qualitative documentary methodology that established analytical categories related to the subject, care, mental health, interculturality, territory, and teacher training. The results indicated that national curriculum policies address mental health in a diffuse manner, associating it as an individual issue with socio-emotional competencies and development, and presenting limitations in recognizing the collective, territorial, and cultural dimensions of care. The analyses also revealed tensions between more standardized curricular proposals and the positioning of indigenous epistemologies, indicating weaknesses in teacher training to effectively support work with sociocultural diversity.
