A pesquisa científica em extensão rural no mundo: insights para a construção do conhecimento

Os serviços de extensão rural são responsáveis pela disseminação de tecnologias e informações para os produtores rurais, desempenhando assim um papel importante na promoção do desenvolvimento rural equitativo. Neste estudo, realizamos uma análise bibliométrica da ciência produzida sobre extensão rural no período 2003-2023. A análise envolveu a busca de artigos nas plataformas Portal de Periódicos Capes, Scopus e Web of Science (WoS), embora tenhamos usado apenas o WoS para processamento de dados. Nossa busca revelou 190 documentos indexados na WoS, indicando que a atenção da comunidade científica ao assunto ainda é incipiente, embora tenha havido um crescimento relativamente forte nos últimos anos. Os países com mais publicações sobre extensão rural foram Brasil (n = 93) e Argentina (n = 31). O Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnica e a Universidade Federal de Viçosa foram as organizações com maior número de artigos. Os termos mais citados nas publicações considerando o período estudado foram “agricultores” e “desenvolvimento rural”, enquanto os tópicos “agroecologia” e “políticas públicas” foram predominantes nos artigos recentes. Este estudo pode ser útil como diretriz para o estabelecimento de novas pesquisas visando o avanço do conhecimento científico no campo da extensão rural, sobretudo em países do Sul Global.

Scientific research in rural extension around the world: insights for building knowledge
ABSTRACT. Rural extension services are responsible for disseminating technologies and information to rural producers, thus playing an important role in promoting equitable rural development. In this study, we carried out a bibliometric analysis of the science produced on rural extension in the period 2003-2023. The analysis involved searching for articles on the Portal de Periódicos Capes, Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS) platforms, although we only used WoS for data processing. Our search revealed 190 documents indexed in WoS, indicating that the scientific community's attention to the subject is still incipient, although there has been relatively strong growth in recent years. The countries with the most publications on rural extension were Brazil (n = 93) and Argentina (n = 31). The Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnica and the Universidade Federal de Viçosa were the organizations with the most articles. The most cited terms in the publications over the period studied were "farmers" and "rural development", while the topics "agroecology" and "public policies" were prevalent in recent articles. This study could be useful as a guideline for establishing new research aimed at advancing scientific knowledge in the field of rural extension, especially in countries of the Global South.

La investigación científica en la extensión rural en todo el mundo: ideas para construir el conocimiento
RESUMEN. Los servicios de extensión rural se encargan de difundir tecnologías e información a los productores rurales, desempeñando así un papel importante en la promoción de un desarrollo rural equitativo. En este estudio, realizamos un análisis bibliométrico de la ciencia producida sobre extensión rural en el período 2003-2023. El análisis incluyó la búsqueda de artículos en las plataformas Capes, Scopus y Web of Science, aunque sólo utilizamos WoS para el procesamiento de datos. Nuestra búsqueda reveló 190 documentos indexados en WoS, lo que indica que la atención de la comunidad científica al tema es todavía incipiente, aunque ha habido un crecimiento relativamente fuerte en los últimos años. Los países con más publicaciones sobre extensión rural fueron Brasil (n = 93) y Argentina (n = 31). El Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas y la Universidade Federal de Viçosa fueron las organizaciones con mayor número de artículos. Los términos más citados en las publicaciones durante el período estudiado fueron "agricultores" y "desarrollo rural", mientras que los temas "agroecología" y "políticas públicas" fueron frecuentes en los artículos recientes. Este estudio podría ser útil como pauta para establecer nuevas investigaciones destinadas a hacer avanzar el conocimiento científico en el ámbito de la extensión rural, especialmente en los países del Sur Global.
