ABSTRACT. When we work with memory, it raises several discussions that relate to both space and time and, above all, with the characters in the game of memories and forgetting. This communication's main objective is to examine the political memory of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985) in the city of Porto Franco/MA, stage of events and prominent characters in the face of Operation Mesopotamia (1971) and Guerrilha do Araguaia (1972 -1975) in his dialogue with civic education. For methodological purposes, this will be a qualitative work, based on a bibliographic and historical review on the topic; Likewise, we will carry out content analysis of documents from the period. As a result of the research, we consider that although there are the consequences of violence and fear due to the traumas arising from the period of the civil-military dictatorship, nevertheless, the city of Porto Franco managed to manage its memory in order to seek to pay off some debts with the past, especially with characters who contributed to the fight against the dictatorial period and for the benefit of the city itself.
