ABSTRACT. Brazilian quilombola communities experience territorial inequalities resulting from processes of social, racial, and political exclusion, expressed through inadequate infrastructure, limited access to health and education services, and the fragility of public policies. These inequalities directly influence ways of living, experiencing illness, and producing care within quilombola territories. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between education and mental health in the Água Fria quilombola community, located in the municipality of Serra do Ramalho, Bahia, Brazil. This is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study conducted through semi-structured interviews with community leaders and a teacher from the local school. The findings indicate that mental health constitutes a social, territorial, and relational phenomenon, deeply connected to living conditions and access to rights. Participants’ narratives revealed that territorial inequalities contribute to psychological distress by restricting access to services, opportunities, and public policies. In contrast, the community develops collective care practices grounded in solidarity, community ties, traditional knowledge, and the valorization of quilombola identity. The school also emerged as an important space for cultural recognition and the strengthening of belonging. It is concluded that the promotion of mental health requires intersectoral public policies that are sensitive to the territorial, racial, and cultural specificities of quilombola communities.
