Reinventing/recounting the Dictatorship: new narratives and perspectives for approaching the military dictatorship in the teaching of sociology and history in basic education

ABSTRACT. This work uses the Sociology and History textbooks of the Tocantins state school system to analyze the content of the 1964 civil-military dictatorship in Brazil and identify possible gaps in the facts narrated about the period, as well as problematizing the way they are narrated. The aim is to map this content in high school and propose alternatives for eliminating these gaps. We will seek to highlight the resistance of the LGBTQIA+ community during the dictatorship and their contributions to confronting it, since they are a group excluded from the official narratives about the dictatorship. From the bibliographical research underway, we can see that this social group is historically invisible in the narratives about the Brazilian military dictatorship and that there is a lack of work that addresses these historical events in relation to gender issues. The aim is to verify the extent to which these aspects are reproduced in textbooks. We used a qualitative approach to think about the teaching materials, focusing on the meanings and motivations behind the content. Finally, we propose to encourage a plural teaching of the themes, capable of contributing to the construction and restitution of memory, citizenship and human rights for these groups.
